R149 per client · your own books free

The books, where
the work already is.

A complete accounting platform for every company whose books you keep — invoicing and statements, purchases, banking and reconciliation, VAT, stock and management reports. It feeds the annual financial statements, management accounts, asset register and tax calcs directly, so nobody exports a trial balance and maps it by hand again.

Built and supported in South Africa · SARS VAT categories, VAT201 layout, IFRS for SMEs

You pay for your clients’ books, not your own

The accounting module is built and in daily use in our own practice — that is what it was built for first. You can start it yourself now: a set of books per client, on a 14-day trial, with or without the practice platform.

  • R149 per client, per month
One set of books per client, unlimited users in it. Your own firm’s books are free.
  • Take it without the workflow
If you want the books and your client list but not jobs and deadlines, that is a choice at sign-up — and you pay no per-user fee at all.
  • We convert your first clients with you
Opening balances, open invoices and bills, bank balances — checked before you rely on them. Ask, and we do it with you.
Everything the books need

A full accounting platform, not a cashbook with reports bolted on

Real double-entry, and a separate company for every client — each with its own chart, financial year and postings lock, so one client’s year-end never touches another’s and a period you have closed stays closed.

General ledger & journals

Post journals, drill from a balance to the line that made it, and lock a period once it is signed off.

  • Chart of accounts
  • Journals
  • Trial balance
  • General ledger
  • Account activity
  • Financial year & postings lock

Sales & debtors

Quote, invoice, credit and collect. Statements go out through the review queue, on your letterhead, with a full audit trail.

  • Customers
  • Quotes & sales orders
  • Tax invoices
  • Credit notes
  • Pro-forma invoices
  • Customer statements
  • Debtors ageing

Purchases & creditors

Capture supplier invoices — or let the AI read them off the PDF and post them for you to approve.

  • Suppliers
  • Purchase orders
  • Supplier invoices
  • Supplier credit notes
  • AI invoice reading
  • Creditors ageing

Banking

Import a statement, let your own rules and your own history code it, then reconcile. The suggestions are free — it is reading your ledger, not an AI.

  • Statement import
  • Auto-allocation rules
  • Suggest from history
  • Payments & receipts
  • Bank reconciliation
  • VAT payments & refunds

VAT

A return laid out the way the VAT201 is, with the period record that stops a late invoice quietly vanishing from every return.

  • VAT201-shaped return
  • Categories A–E
  • Invoice or payments basis
  • Period filing record
  • VAT history
  • Late-item handling

Reports

On screen, as a PDF, as a working Excel file, or emailed to the client through the outbox.

  • Trial balance
  • Profit & loss
  • Balance sheet
  • General ledger
  • Debtors & creditors
  • VAT return & history
  • Management dashboard

Stock

Full stock control for the clients who carry it — and invisible for the ones who do not, because Virta asks rather than showing everybody a stock menu.

  • Products & services
  • Item groups & departments
  • Price lists & future prices
  • Stock adjustments
  • Stock transfers
  • Stock takes
  • Locations & bins

Every client, kept apart

Each company is its own set of books with its own users and permissions, and a conversion path in from whatever they are on now.

  • A company per client
  • Roles & permissions
  • Full audit trail
  • Your branding on documents
  • Convert from another package
  • Multi-user, no seat limit
Built for how small clients actually work

Not every client invoices. Virta asks.

A café banks its card takings and captures its wholesalers’ invoices. A consultancy invoices every sale and codes its purchases straight off the bank. Most tools assume one or the other and quietly get the other one wrong.

Virta asks how each side of a set of books gets its entries, and then holds you to it — because coding a receipt to income in books where the sale was already invoiced counts that sale twice, and the trial balance and the bank reconciliation both still tie. Nothing downstream catches it.

It is also the reason a client with no stock never sees a stock menu, and a client who keeps stock cannot hide it by accident.

Per set of books

Sales reach these books as
Invoices captured in Virta Off the bank statement
Purchases reach these books as
Supplier invoices captured Payments coded to expense

Answered once, it decides what a bank line is allowed to do — and it will refuse an allocation that would leave a balance nothing can ever clear.

Where it pays off

The accounting is the input to everything else

This is the part a standalone accounting package cannot do. Because the books and the compliance tools are the same system, the month-end stops being a series of exports.

→
Annual Financial Statements
A full IFRS-for-SMEs or ISRS 4410 set, off the books you have just posted.
→
Management Accounts
Monthly or quarterly packs, mapped once and reused.
→
Fixed Asset Register
Wear-and-tear, year-end close and a register that ties to the ledger.
→
Tax calculations
Provisional and income tax working off real figures, not a re-typed trial balance.

Bring the books across

Convert Books takes the opening trial balance, the invoices still owed, the bills still owing and the bank balances from the client’s current package — so they carry on from a known position instead of being re-captured by hand.

Your own invoices post themselves

If you keep your practice’s books in Virta too, an invoice you issue a client lands in your own debtors ledger the moment it is issued. No monthly re-keying of your own fees.

Figures by name, not by lookup

Name a figure once — “Director’s loan” — and pull it into a letter, an email or a job form as a merge token, straight out of that client’s books.

On its own, or with the practice side

You do not have to take both

Plenty of firms already have a practice manager they are happy with and want the accounting. Plenty of businesses are not a firm at all and just want their own books kept properly. Either is a fine place to start.

  • Accounting only
The full accounting platform, plus the compliance tools that read it. No practice management.
  • Practice only
Proposals, workflow, deadlines and client communication, without the accounting side — what Virta has always been.
  • Both, one login
The version this was designed for: the work and the books in the same place, with nothing exported between them.

Still being built

Said here rather than left for you to discover.

  • Payroll
A full SA payroll with EMP201/EMP501 and ETI is in build.
  • Self-serve sign-up for books
Today a set of books is switched on with us, on purpose.

AI-assisted features are advisory — every output is for the practitioner to review before relying on it.
